Mikado Sustainable Development Consultancy and Sabancı University begin a project titled “Capacity Development Program for Human Rights in Business.” The Human Rights Fund of the Consulate of the Netherlands funds the project with 25,000 Euros.
The objective of the project is to increase human rights awareness in the business world, proliferate best practices and drive change, and is aimed at private businesses operating in Turkey. Applications can be made online at www.haklimisiniz.org until 15 January 2013.
The project has four phases. The first phase includes two “Human Rights and Business” two-day training sessions in Istanbul. The first training was held on October 13 and 14, 2012 with participation from leading companies including Roche, Bilim Pharmaceuticals, Anadolu Group, Boyner and Morhipo. The second training will be held on January 19 and 20, 2013. Participants are chosen among companies that are sensitive to human rights and plan to make improvements within the business. Training sessions are free of charge and include the history of human rights, case studies on human rights in business, best practice sharing, and roadmaps for participants to develop human rights strategies within their companies.
The second phase of the project is implementation guidance. Companies which take part in the Human Rights and Business trainings and wish to implement the Human Rights Roadmap within their organizations will receive free implementation guidance. The guidance program includes the development of human rights strategies in companies, implementation of improvement plans and the development of best practices.
In the last phase of the project, a final meeting will be held with all interested public offices and institutions, private businesses, non-governmental organizations and academic institutions to share project outputs and success stories. A final report of project outputs and success stories will be compiled and made available to the public.
